hello, are you my fairy godmother ?

Filed under: creative!, diy, sewing — Tags: — bangkokmom @ 1:33 am

just want to say ‘ thanks ! ‘ for giving my bags a ‘ heart ‘ on dawanda … the way it is done there, they don’t let sellers find out who pinned or hearted their products … i think it is to prevent the ‘ i pinned you, so you pin me back ‘ networking system …

so now i have a total of 4 bags on the site… at first , i wasn’t sure about selling the bucket ( picture below ) … as i stated in my own comment , i didn’t think it was my idea … after a much heated discussion with a friend , she pointed out that there is a difference between being inspired by an idea and copying an idea … ” copying would be using the same double bag system to hold the plastic bag and using a pin to attach the straps … here, you’ve come up with your own method of attaching the plastic bag… the shape’s different, the strap’s different … if you stick to your line of thoughts, you shouldn’t be making anything for sale … some time long ago, someone thought up they’ll line a bag to make it prettier, does that mean you shouldn’t sell lined bags ? what about coin purses and mobile pouches ? ” … her point is every new product comes from an old product with a twist … i can say i’ve added mine ….

candle kratongs

Filed under: creative!, places to go, thai — Tags: , , — bangkokmom @ 12:30 am

the monks at wat prayoon are  geniuses … they built this temporary pond outside their temple and offer candle kratongs in exchange for money donations … after the festival ( which they’ve extended to sunday ), they’ll recycle the candle wax  to make those huge yellow candles for use in the temple … they get donation money and their wax back ! brilliant !

outside fabric is canvas , inside cotton brown polka dots …. in the pattern, they don’t use inner fabric and the edges  were sewn with red threads … here, i cut the fabric so that the opening is laid on the sides , giving it a raw ragged edge ( that does not fray  ) …. it is an interesting design …. the straps were not sewn on the opening edges, but about 1/3 of the way down the sides …. when you strap it on, the top falls over n becomes the flap … japanese design are the best !

more on recycling …

Filed under: thai, thingstodo — Tags: — bangkokmom @ 11:14 pm

those recyling bins  in Foodland were actually part of a recently implemented project by Bangkok Glass company with BMA… ( i was trying to watch the program with 2 kids coughing away , so if i miss anything just leave a comment ) … i’m quite sure that Big C, Carrefoure , Foodland, and Central are participating in this project …. the proceeds from sales or profit ( not sure ) will be donated to the Chai Pattana Foundation …. it makes sense that Bangkok Glass is doing this … recycling glass should be cheaper than producing them from step one … they have Boonrawd Brewery as one of their partners , so giving back to society is a ‘ must ‘ thing to do ….

this wave of ‘ go green ‘ and ‘ i-am-not-a-plastic-bag’ campaign is getting into my head … i was in the bathroom checking out all the stuffs there for the recycling sign …. Rexona roll-ons doesn’t have the sign … nor does Colgate toothpaste … does that mean they are not recyclable ? …

update : Rexona roll-ons have the ‘ PP ‘ sign on the bottom of the roll-on… the ones in Carrefoure has them , but why is mine not marked ?? … also, i spotted those recyling bins at Carrefoure, Issarapap … they are located opposite the store’s entrance

pesky-ness overheard …

Filed under: kids — bangkokmom @ 10:00 pm

my K1 was instructed to pick up all her princess dress before bedtime …. since these were her special dresses , she placed them on hangers and zipped them up ( for all other clothings, she just crumple them up into a ball and shove them into the drawer ) … then i heard her said :

” Where is the owner of these dresses ? What? No owner?! Great, I’ll donate them all to charity. “

then she saw me watching her and walked away with a big smile on her face … she does sound like me …

king of recycle

Filed under: thai, thingstodo — Tags: — bangkokmom @ 11:57 pm

Somthai Wongcharoen  is thailand’s king of recycle  … this guy is amazing … i watched an tv program on him and it really opened my eyes as to what could be recycle … his point is if we don’t seperate our trash , they will probably end up in landfills … i think there are people who wants to do their part in keeping the city green , but don’t know where to dump their recyclable garbage… there is  a lack of convenient collections points… of course there is the ‘ saleng ‘ guy , but they are quite picky about what to accept … in my area, the saleng guy doesn’t accept stylofoam or uht packages … he tells us that it is not profitable …

I’ve seen Foodland doing their part … they have bins to collect paper / plastic / glass / uhtboxes plus something else, can’t remember …. what about Tesco Lotus , Big C,  and Carrefoure ? … are there recycling bins there ? … actually it isn’t that hard to set up  … they can section off a parking space and fill it up with recycling bins …  they can actually make some money out of this  !  why is it not done ? ….

read more about recycling here ..

new bridge !

Filed under: thai — Tags: — bangkokmom @ 11:04 pm

This is the outer ring road bridge …. now i can drive directly from Rama 2 rd to Srinakarin ( near the Teparak intersection ) … with the mega bridges, i get off at Poo Chao Saming Pra … the traffic there is bad cuz there are a lot of factories located there … most of the time my little car is sitting in a traffic jam surrounded by 40′ container trucks and 10 wheelers … not very comfortable , espcially when the tanker in front of me is carrying sulfuric acid ….

outer ring road bridge

the toll booths are not completed yet, so it is free as of now … you can see the elephant museum  ( there’s supposed to be 3 heads on this elephant ) …. doesn’t it look like the elephants pointing the way ?

taking pictures of my bags … this is an one-woman-show …. i have to model them and snap the pictures  by myself … the only place that’s sunny enough is at the balcony … so there i am, standing tiptoe on one foot , reaching for the shutter, and i have 2 seconds to pose … my housekeeper must think i’m crazy …

i found out i can’t verify my paypal account till the bill comes ( mid-december ) … shucks… shoppers will think ” her account’s not verified, she lives in this far away country called ‘ Thailand ‘ and her username is ‘ bang – KOK – mom ‘ ” …. waaaaah !

the shop’s url is : bkkmomstudio.dawanda.com … go on , click on it … you even get to see my face ! … there are only 2 items in the shop so far … i’ll be adding a shopping bag soon …
