Does your children tell on each other ? Today the K2 said the following :

The person wearing a green T-shirt, blue jeans, with her hair tied in red rubber band still have lots of pieces left. “
scratching your head ? … that’s the K2’s way of saying ” two of them ” … it’s translated from thai ( ” song un ” ) to english … ( a little background , my kids are bilingual … they learn english from me, the tv, storybooks , and from school <– only 3hrs/week … they are exposed to the thai language a lot more than to the english language ) …
i got the K2 to understand the pronouns recently where everyday when we mop the floor together we practiced ” This is mine and this is yours / You mop there and I mop here ” … the pronouns took time to get through … my reasoning is that in thai language, people tend to use their names in place of the pronouns … instead of saying ” I give it to you ” , they’ll say ” John give it to Jane “ … i think this structure crossed over when they use english and they may have thought that the pronouns were names … makes sense ?
there are other examples … with the kid , i’ve been trying for ages to make her use ” turn on / off the light ” instead of ” open/close the light ” … she knows ” open the light ” means ” breaking it apart ” but she still does it ! … same story with ” when I eat finished ” instead of ” when I finished eating ” … hard habit to break …

now, if only i can do the same with the plastics … on another note, i’ve given up on the nearby carrefoure’s recycling bins … total chaos going on in there … they really should move the bins to another area so non-recycling folks would just use the regular bins …
for a friend who just had a baby … i took a baby rattle pattern , increase it by 20% increments on a photo editing program and make these :
i use the triple stitch function on the sewing machine to make it extra strong … however the opening have to be hand-stitched … i picked the least possible place to be chewed on as the opening for the stuffings ( that will be the handles ) … when the kid was a baby , i sewed up a set of wrist rattles for her … i tore up a store bought rattle to see what makes the rattling sound … it is just a small plastic box, much like those round travel-sized ones used for putting lotion … it’s sealed with glue and inside are metal balls … i skipped the rattle box for safety sake … now i’m deciding whether to sew a crib toy storage bag or this …
and to my horror , they’ve moved the assembly time up 20 minutes for the primary kids … my lack of posts is due to an early bedtime for me … don’t want to wake up late and run around like a headless chicken … i think the kindergarten section remains the same, so that’s good … the K2 doesn’t have to wait too long for her sis to get out of class …
the K2 hasn’t cried at all … what works for me is, when she starts getting second thoughts about going to school, i’ll remind her what activities there will be that day ( i.e. art class, swimming, english ) … for the 4 days that school has started , it worked … also , allowance money should be given last minute … this keeps her head occupied on what to eat after school …

i subscribed to Craftzine’s digital magazine a few days ago … the newest edition has some how-to’s on remaking shoes … i’ve got a pair that’s seen its days … so, today i tore it apart … here are some pics ..
after i ripped of the top, i use that piece to make a pattern to sew a new one … then i glued the sides back on … ( i use Bond tech glue , which comes out of a can and is very MESSY !!! )
i was afraid the top may fall off , so i hammer some nails to keep it in place … the base is made from foam , so it was easy to get the nails in straight — across …
the heels are re-covered with fabric … i wanted to use brown canvas with tiny pink polka dots , but i sold a bag to a mom at school with that fabric … don’t want to offend her and use it on my shoe ( it is a thai thing ) …
i only applied glue to the edges ( on the shoe and the fabric ) cuz the piece i tore off doesn’t seem to have glue in the middle …
i’m still deciding on what to use to cover the edges … the only brown trims i have got pom-poms on them … the trim i used on the bottom, i cut them off !
i usually wear plain, solid colored shoes , so i’m not sure about this look yet …
when in doubt, leave the project as is …
and marvel at all the pins stuck on the shoe…
a moral dilemma here … my dog is old , not to mention half blind, totally deaf … i suspect that she’s turned senile too, cuz sometimes she mistaken the kitchen as the bathroom floor … lately she’s been leaky … i can deal with the dog hair and pet dander , okay, the occasional leaky pipes … but lately, she’s been leaky 7/11 … so today, for my own sanity and the kids too ( they walk around the house like it’s been mined ) , i locked the dog up in the balcony … when it gets hot , she stays in the bathroom … this will be the routine until i think up a better solution …
at last , it is done … i was figuring out what to use as the table top …
the stand is just steel rods… dad helped me calculate how much to buy ( they come in 2 meters length ) … the bottom shelving is an old bed board which i jigsawed by myself … i haven’t sweated so much, so fast … the board is then painted with some left over wall paint … for the table top , i use a pvc door which was in the clearance area … one side is scratched, so it was marked down to 795bht … these doors come with a door knob hole , which is the same size as those wire-management holes on computer desks … i used one of those round plastic sliding door thingies ( which i’m sure there is a name for it ) to cover the hole up … to keep the table top in place, i drilled four holes underneath , and popped it over four protruding screws …
it is a very long table ( 2 meters x 70 cms ) , good for laying out patterns cuz of the the smooth surface , waterproof for kids to do paintings…
