” Pi Lork “

Filed under: thai — Tags: — bangkokmom @ 11:36 am

One of the construction workers claimed that he’s been spooked. He said he was listening to the radio, about to fall asleep when he heard an old man’s voice . The old man said ” Young man, that is a good song. Turn up the volume.” After hearing that, he slowly got up , woke up all the other construction workers and drank coffee till morning.

I think it is just an excuse for why they look so sleepy. Could be drinking something else rather than coffee, huh ? Anyways, The Husband asked around and there really was an old man who passed away in this house from old age. He passed away in the room which will become our master bedroom. How lovely.  I guess he’s now wandering around the house cuz we knocked the walls out of the room.

I’m not spooked. I can stay in the house alone, no problem. Several years ago, I scared myself silly when I heard noises that echoed from the stairways, like someone pressing his hands on the stair rails and make squeaking sounds while walking down the stairs ? ( I have vivid imagination ) It turned out it was just the neighbour rolling down his squeaky glass window binds , so I’m not going to scare myself silly this time. There must be an explanation for weird noises. Be NOT afraid !!

err… what’s that noise ?

TAP ! Tap , tap-tap-tap tap …
TAP ! Tap, tap-tap-tap-tap …

I was in the bedroom listening to this sound echoing out of the wall while tidying up. It’s much like the noise made when a glass marble is dropped and bounces off the floor. I assumed that those weeks of pounding and hammering have finally done harm to our neighbours’ sanity and they are actually ” losing their marbles “.

Come afternoon, The Husband gets back from work. He enters the bedroom and immediately jumps back out. ” What’s that noise ? “, he asked, alarmed. I went for a listen. Surprisingly, the noise was still there and it has picked up intensity, from the melancholy-drop a-marble-sound to angrily-throws-marble-at-wall sound. The Husband went upstairs to check. The moment I heard him opened the door, the noise ceased.

Spooky coincidence ? Scientific explanations, anyone ? The reason The Husband was alarmed was because he was just asked that very morning if there once was an old man who lived here by one of the construction workers.

How to Fold a Plastic Bag Teeny-tiny

Storing plastic bags for reuse can take up lots of space because of its puffy nature. Here’s a space-saving way to fold them. The plastic bag’s handle is used to hold the folded bag into place.

fold-plastic-bag

1. Flatten out the bag
2. Fold bottom part up
3. Fold one handle down
4. Fold bottom part up
5. Fold sideways
6. Fold sideways again
7. Hold the folded portion with one hand, pull the handle backwards with the other. Swing it around the middle part of the bag one or two times. Twist and pull one of the handle’s strap over the bag to secure , much like a rubber band.

Each time you make a fold, press out the air trapped in the bag so that it doesn’t puff back to life. You can then store them according to the bag’s size.

Free Organizing Sheets ..

Filed under: creative!, diy — Tags: — bangkokmom @ 1:51 pm

This is a ” Don’t Forget ” list. Print it on both side of A4 paper, then fold it into a booklet ( fold down into half, then across into half ) . You can use the first two pages for groceries, a page for “to do ” items, and for me , one page for a list of stuffs to google up when I get to an internet cafe. When the list is filled up , turn the booklet around and you can use the back side of the paper too !

Unfortunately , I couldn’t get the .mdi file converted into .pdf without the image squished up. I downloaded the .mdi file into mediafire.com.

Download the .mdi file here .

The one below is a Crafts Project Sheet . ( You see I do have too much time on my hands now that I have no internet at home. *sniff* ) You can keep track of all your DIY projects, and not get the work-in-progress ones lost in a box. There’s reference for the project’s pattern whether it’s an original or from a book/magazine. If it’s from a book/magazine, you can jot down the issue and page number for easy reference. There’s a material and cost section. On the header, you can note down who this project is made for.

The .mdi file’s  here

I haven’t tried printing them out from the link . If there is any glitches or mistakes, please let me know !

Construction Update

wallgone1

This used to be my bathroom. The pounding has been going on from last week. They knocked off several walls , now it is clearing the debris time.

The other day, The Husband found a place that was designed just the way he wished our house would look like . The place happens to be a newly renovated love motel. Don’t ask how he found it. According to my interrogations, the motel was on the short cut route he usually takes while driving around in his motorcycle. ( I will be asking him again 6 months later to check on any discrepancies in the story. )

The place’s got the whole concrete + dark wood + glass design going. It is quite modern looking and they also have this woman who kept asking ” We also have short-time service, 2 hours okay ? ” It’s one of those situations where you want to burst out laughing and yet, also want to land your Nike onto that person’s cheek.

Same old, same old …

Filed under: kids — bangkokmom @ 4:06 pm

Nothing out of the ordinary hammering and drilling happening here. Very noisy at home !! I’m with the kid, she’s doing a report on computer peripherals so we are both at the internet cafe. This morning I was explaining to her that  copy+pasting infos you find on the net is not doing a report, it’s called ‘ plagerism’. She , on the other hand, tried to explain to me that all her classmates do that and they all get “A’s “. When I said that’s not the correct way of doing your homework, she threw daggers at me ( with her eyes ) .

I’ve just converted some mdi files into pdfs. Going to test print them when I get home. If they come out looking good, I’ll be posting them. One is a crafts project organising sheet and a very simple ” Don’t Forget ” list.

Till then , bye !

Dust, Dust and More Dust

Filed under: housework, renovations — Tags: — bangkokmom @ 11:15 am

We did a hose down plus 2 more rounds of cleaning before we moved upstairs to the vacant floor. Still, dust seems to grow out of the floor. I think it is from the dust embedded on the walls, ceiling, window+door frames. Any vibration, a cough , a sneeze will loosen the settlement and trigger a dust storm. I spent 1/2 a day dustbusting the bedroom yesterday. I now have an obssessive-complusive desire to wipe every surface in sight—Not ! I’m suppose to dustbust the living room but I’m at an internet cafe at the moment. By the way , Scott’s multi-purpose wipers are really good !!

Also cleaned the spooky bathroom. If you remember, there’s this bathroom with a hole knocked into the wall by the plumber ? I half expected to see a disshevled lady crawling out of the hole, a la, Korean horror flick style ? It really adds excitement to the mundaneness of house cleaning.

So far, the demolition team has sawed off the stairway’s rails, and they are in the process of taking out all the door frames. The ceiling’s been ripped off. I think after this team’s done, the team of electricians will move in.

Day 1 : Moving Day

Filed under: renovations — bangkokmom @ 8:55 pm

( backdate Sat, Jan31 )

Moving is no problem when your contractor sends in his team and whirlwinds around the house. By noon all boxes, major appliances were moved up, unwanted furnitures moved down, and built-in furnitures taken apart. This is what our bedroom and sitting area looks like after they were gone.

day11

The L-shaped wall is where a built-in shelf used to be.

Upstairs was another story. The storage room was stuffed to its brims. I think if I have to do this again ( which I hope not in a very, very long time ) , I would use different color tapes to close the boxes. For example, all kitchen items will be in boxes that’s sealed with red tape, computer items with blue tape, books with white tape, etc… It is hard to read the labels when all the boxes are stacked close together and look the same. I did several rounds of “Spidermom” around the storage room  trying to locate That Box with That Thing.

The kids are pretty excited about the “new” house. The K2 actually said she wants to live here for 10 months. 10 months must be a very long time for kids her age.

Hello Hello !
